我叫瑞贝卡,来自英语系列教学视频网engvid。
In today's lesson, I'll give you 10 important tips to do well and to get a higher score on the speaking section of your IELTS exam, or actually on any oral speaking test where you're sitting with a live examiner.
在今天的课程里,我将给你十个重要提示,用以在你的雅思考试口语部分获得高分,或者可用在任何有现场考官的口语考试中。
Okay?
明白吗?
So these tips don't apply actually to the TOEFL where your answers are recorded, but it's for any English exam where you're sitting with a real examiner.
所以这些提示不适用于录制答案的托福考试,但是适用于任何你与真正考官面对面的英语测试。
Okay?
明白吗?
Now, the IELTS, of course, the speaking section of the IELTS test is about 11 or 14 minutes long, has three different sections, and so on.
现在,当然说说雅思考试,雅思考试的口语部分大概长度是11到14分钟,有三个不同部分。
And the IELTS is an exam which is a. . .
雅思是一种...
It's an English proficiency exam.
它是英语流利度测试。
It's used for immigration purposes, for example, to Canada and Australia.
可以用来移民,比如说加拿大,澳大利亚。
It's used for admission to universities where English is the medium of instruction, and it's also used for professional certification purposes.
可以用在英语作为教学用语的大学入学考试,可以用在职业证书考试。
So lots and lots of people, millions of people do the IELTS exam.
所以许许多多人,数百万人都参加雅思考试。
And if you're one of them, these speaking tips will really help you.
如果你是其中一员,这些英语口语技巧对你非常有用。
They're general tips; they're not about the specific sections.
这些是普遍性技巧,并不针对特定领域。
They apply to all sections of the speaking test.
适用于所以口语考试部分。
Okay?
明白吗?
Let's get started.
我们开始吧。
So, the first point is: during your speaking test, be formal.
第一点:考试期间,举止正式。
By that, I mean treat it like a job interview.
我说的是,像工作面试一样对待它。
And just as in a job interview, you'll be on your best behaviour and so on, behave that way.
工作面试时候,你会有最佳言行举止,这里同样。
Don't take it very casually.
不要很随意。
Okay?
好吗?
Take it seriously and be formal.
严肃对待,行为正式得体。
Next, give a full answer whenever possible.
下一个,任何时候,尽可能给出完整的答案。
Now, remember and just think about it: you have about 11 to 15 minutes to use the best English that you know and that you've studied all your life.
现在,要记得想想:你只有11到15分钟用来展示你所拥有的和你所学过的最好的英语技能。
Okay?
明白吗?
So, obviously, you want to try to show off during your English test.
所以,显而易见,英语测试期间你要试着展示出来。
So, when I say give a full answer, I mean, in the first section when they ask you some questions about you, about your family, about your background, if they say, for example: "Where are you from?" Don't just say: "Tokyo", because that's just a one word answer.
所以,我说的完整的回答指的是,在第一部分,当他们提一些关于你的、关于你的家庭,关于你的背景的问题,如果他们说,比如说:“你从哪里来”,不要说:“东京”,因为那只有一个词。
Try, as much as possible, to give sentences.
试着多说一点,说个句子。
Give full sentences.
给一个完整的句子。
All right?
好吗?
Full answer.
完整的回答。
So that you can show when you use the full sentence that you know grammar, you know vocabulary, and all these other things.
所以,当你用完整的句子,你知道其中语法、单词还有其他的东西时候,你可以展示出来。
So, instead of just saying: "Tokyo."
不要说:“东京”。
Say: "I'm from Tokyo, the capital of Japan." Or: "I'm from the capital of Japan, Tokyo." Now, you've given a lot more information.
而要说:“我来自东京,日本的首都。”或者说:“我来自日本首都,东京。”现在你知道了吧。
So, obviously, you get much more marks if you kept doing that throughout.
所以,显然,如果你可以将此贯穿始终,你可以得到更高的分数。
Right?
对吗?
Give full answers, using sentences, not just words.
给出完整回答,使用句子,不是词。
Next: be polite.
下一个:有礼貌。
What we mean by that, for example, if the examiner asks you something and you didn't understand, it's okay.
什么意思,举个例子,如果考官问你一些事,你不明白,没关系。
Just ask for the explanation in a polite way.
礼貌地请求给出解释。
Don't just say: "What?" Or: "Sorry?"
不要说:“什么?”或者说“不好意思?”
Say: "Excuse me? Could you please repeat that?" Because that's also using English, and that's what they want to know: can you use English?
说:“对不起,您可以重复一下吗?”因为那也是英语运用,那就是他们想知道的;你能否使用英语。
And by being polite, you're not just showing that you know the language, but also that you know the culture of the language, which is being polite.
彬彬有礼一些,你不仅要展示你了解语言,而且也要展示其中的文化,这才有礼貌。
Okay?
明白吗?
So remember to do that.
所以谨记。
Next, maintain good posture.
下一个,保持好的仪态。
Why do I put that?
我为何那么说?
Nobody's filming you.
没人给你录像。
Right?
对吧?
So, why do you have to maintain good posture?
所以,你为何要保持好的仪态?
Because your posture actually affects your. . .
因为你的仪态影响你...
The way you speak.
你的说话方式。
It affects your confidence, the confidence with which you speak, it affects the way your voice is projected.
它影响你的自信,你讲话时候的自信,影响你的声音发声。
So you want to make sure that you don't, for example, lean on your hand when you're speaking or anything like that.
所以,你要保证,比如,不会在讲话时候,用手托着头,或者其他诸如此类。
Okay?
好吗?
Make sure that you sit straight and don't put your hand anywhere near your face, even if you're nervous, because that will affect the quality of your voice and the way it's projected.
你要坐直,手不要靠近脸,即便你很紧张。因为那会影响你的声音音质,影响发声。
Okay?
好吗?
Next.
下一个。
Number five: speak clearly.
第五:表达清晰。
Now, what I mean by this is: don't worry too much about your accent.
我的意思是:不要担心口音。
Everyone has an accent, and as long as you do your best to enunciate the words clearly, that's all you can do.
每人都有口音,只要你能尽可能字词发音清晰,这就行了。
If you need to improve your pronunciation, work on that before your exam.
如果你需要改善发音,考试之前就解决。
If there are some very specific pronunciation errors that you tend to make or that people from your country tend to make, then obviously, work on those beforehand.
如果有一些具体的发音错误,你有或者你们国人倾向有,显而易见,提前解决。
For example, if you are a Spanish speaker and you say: "Jess", instead of: "Yes", then that's a big mistake that you want to correct well before you come to the exam.
举例,如果你说西语,你说“Jess”,而没说“Yes”,那么那是一个你需要在考试前就纠正的大的错误。
So, work on those pronunciation issues before, and then afterwards, don't worry about your accent, just speak as clearly as you can.
所以,提前解决那些发音问题,此后,不必担心你的口音,表达清楚就可以。
Okay?
好吗?
Next: use descriptive words.
下一个:使用描述性词语。
By that, I mean, again, remember, we were supposed to show off, use the best English you have?
我的意思是,记住,我们应该展示自己最佳的英语技能?
So, don't use boring words, don't use overly used words, like: "good", "bad", "okay", "nice".
所以,不要使用令人厌烦的词语,也不要用滥用的词汇,比如"good", "bad", "okay", "nice"。
Use exciting words, use dynamic words to show that you have a rich vocabulary to express yourself in English.
使用一些令人觉得眼前一亮的词,变化的词汇来显示你有丰富的词汇量可以用英语表达自己。
Don't just say: "Good".
不要只是说“good”。
Say. . .
说...
Or don't just say: "happy", say: "thrilled".
或者不要只是说:“happy”,而说:“thrilled”。
Don't just say: "sad", you can say: "depressed".
不要说:“sad”,你可以说:“depressed”。
Use a more advanced word if you know it and if you're sure of the meaning.
如果你知道,你也确定其意,那就用更加高级的词汇。
But most of all, try to stay away from the overly used words like: "good", "bad", "okay", "nice".
最重要的是,远离滥用的词语,比如"good", "bad", "okay", "nice"。
All right?
行吗?
Next: speak up.
下一个:大声说。
Speak up means make sure you speak loudly enough to be heard and also recorded.
大声说意味着确保你的声音足够大,可以听道,也可以录到。
Because during the IELTS, for example, you are judged by that examiner,
因为在雅思考试中,举个例子,考官会对你做出评价。
and also you are recorded so that another examiner is going to listen to what you said during your English test.
而且你的声音也会录到,这样另一个考官会复听你英语考试时候说了什么。
So speak clearly enough that the recording will allow you to be heard properly.
声音要足够清晰,这样录音才能听到你说的。
Okay?
明白吗?
Next: keep a steady pace.
下一个:语速稳定。
That means don't speak too fast, and don't speak too slowly.
意思是不要说得太快,也不要说的太慢。
If you're not sure how fast you should speak, speak slower than you think is necessary because that way it's much more likely that you will be understood.
如果你不确定语速应该多快,那就比你认为的更慢一些,这样别人更好明白你的讲话。
Okay?
好吗?
Next: explain any foreign words that you use as part of your answer.
下一个:解释你答案中的外语词汇。
What do I mean by that, and why should you be using foreign words?
我说的意思是什么,为什么你要用外语词汇?
Well, foreign words can also be the names of cities, for example.
So if they ask you where you're from-right? -and you need to use the name of a city or a town, which is not common knowledge, like London or Paris, it may be not as common and it may not be so easy to understand.
因为外语词汇可能是一些城市的名字,比如:如果他们问你从哪里来,你要用到城市或城镇的名字,那并不为人所常知,比如伦敦或者巴黎,它甚至不容易明白。
So, instead of saying. . . For example, suppose you came. . .
所以,不要说,比如,假设你来自...
Suppose you're from India and you come from a city called Hyderabad.
假设你来自印度,来自一个叫做海得拉巴的城市。
Now, Hyderabad is a bit of a mouthful, it's an unfamiliar word.
海得拉巴有些拗口,不是常见的词。
So, what you could do to make it easier and to get higher marks is instead of just saying: "I come from Hyderabad", and the examiner might think: "What did he say? What does that mean? I don't understand." So, they. . .
所以,为使之更好理解且得到更高的分数,你不能直说:“我来自海得拉巴”,那么考官就会想:“他在说什么?什么意思?我不明白。”所以,他们...
Another. . .
另外一个...
A way to get around that is to say: "I come from a city in the southern part of India called Hyderabad."
Now, what you've done is you've given an explanation of what you're going to say so the listener knows that there is a word coming,
应对的方式应该说:“我来自印度南部一个叫做海得拉巴的城市”,现在,你所做的就是解释你所要表达的,这样听者知道这是一个词。
and even if I don't know it, I know what it means or what it refers to.
即便我不知道这个词,可我知道其意思或所指。
So it will sound, in fact, like you speak better English, because you have taken the listener into account.
这听起来,事实上,似乎你讲的英语更好,因为你考虑到了听者感受。
Okay?
好吗?
Next: stay on topic.
下一个:不要脱题。
So, even though I said speak in sentences, don't use too many sentences to answer any one question.
所以,即便我说的是句子,回答同一个问题时候也不要使用太多句子。
So that. . .
那么......
Because if you do that, then the examiner will think that you don't understand the question.
因为如果你这么做,考官就会认为你不理解问题。
You want to make sure that you answer the question and don't go way beyond that.
你需要确保你回答了问题,且不要跑题。
Okay?
好吗?
They always have enough questions to ask you.
他们有足够多的问题问你。
Don't worry.
不要担心。
Next: don't use slang.
下一个:不要使用俚语。
Again, you want to use your best English.
再说一遍,你要使用你的最佳英语技能。
And slang can even be things like: "kids".
俚语可以是这些,比如:“kids”。
A lot of my students don't realize that you should be using the word: "children" instead of "kids".
我很多的学生都没有意识到你应该使用“children”不要用“kids”。
Or you should use the word: "items" instead of "things", "stuff".
或者你应该用这个词:“item”而不是“things”,“stuff”。
This is all slang.
这就是俚语。
Okay?
明白吗?
Slang is not just bad language, but also this kind of casual language.
俚语不仅指粗俗的语言,也是很随意的语言。
Right?
不是吗?
You don't want to use that kind of language in your English test or on your IELTS speaking test.
英语考试中,或者你的雅思考试口语部分,不要用那些语言。
Use the best English that you know.
用你知道的最佳的英语表达。
And last of all: don't memorize answers.
最后:不要死记硬背答案。
A lot of students read model answers, and it's good to do that.
很多学生学习模板答案,这很好。
It gives you an idea of how to answer.
这让你知道如何做答。
But what you should do from that is to take ideas about how to structure your answer, take some vocabulary, take some expressions, but don't try to memorize the answer because it's going to sound very artificial.
但是,你应该从中学习如何组织自己的答案,如何使用词汇,如何运用表达,但不要死记硬背,因为听起来很僵硬。
And if you forget, it's going to completely fall apart.
如果你忘了,就会完全崩溃。
And also, the examiners can. . . Are quite experienced; they can usually tell if you're suddenly giving like a little speech.
所以,考官可以。他们经验丰富;可以辨别出你是否突然在做一个迷你演说。
They'll know that's not you, because you also answered, you know, 15 other questions, and you didn't sound like that.
他们知道那不是你,因为你回答的时候,你知道,其他15个问题时候,你不是那个样子。
And all of a sudden, you give this little mini speech, and it doesn't sound good, and they might not give you marks for that at all because it's not you speaking; you just memorized something.
突然,你给了一个迷你演讲,这听起来很不好,他们或许因此不给你分数,因为你不是在说,而是背诵。
They don't want to know what you can memorize.
他们不是要了解你可以背诵。
They want to know what you can say when you're using the language by itself in a natural way.
他们想知道你在说话时,可以表达的很自然。
Okay?
明白吗?
So learn how to benefit from those kind of model answers, but don't memorize.
所以从模板中学习,而不要背诵。
Okay?
可以吗?
And I assure you that if you do a lot of these things or all of these things, you're definitely going to get a much higher score on your IELTS speaking test, and also on any oral English exam.
我保证,如果你可以做到这些,或做到全部以上所说,你定会在雅思口语考试,或者其他英语口语考试中得到高分。
Okay?
明白吗?
Thanks for watching, and good luck with your IELTS or any English exam.
谢谢观看,祝你雅思考试或者其他任何英语考试取得好成绩。
Bye for now.
